I her great niece am  just 10 years old :   Annie is explaining further, that  she was cooking for `our Bessie who likes her dinner on time … she has so much work every day from 9 am to 6 pm … Annie crossed two big wooden spoons beside the FOOD she was preparing for her elder sister Our Bessie … who dashes about helping the church Afternoons for Young Mothers Meetings, visits to sick people, a cup of tea and a biscuit with friends, everyone knitting, growing fruit or vegetables and flowers - rushing in and out of our hospital to see if she can visit for them especially in this WARTIME …  She can`t stop working like we had to when we had our Sea-men Mission at Walton, that is Liverpool, before you were born … We girls would read from Mr Ruskin`s Lectures for Working Men … and the young priests in training would come and give a hand … the evenings had big attendance … some young ladies did not tell their fathers IN BUSINESS what they were helping with  but their mothers agreed with helping everyone to make LIFE a little better…”

 

ANNIE had met ANDRE MALRAUX 1937 August when she was bathing her tiny Irish feet and they had talked for 10 minutes but it was explained they had the big house `Stella Maris` , named after the wife of the Artist CHARLES CONDER, full up with visitors … old friends from Manchester, priests and a Missionary lady … Andre tells us he would have liked to have spoken more with her … and heard about the world of Arts and Crafts Manchester and Liverpool at the turn of the Century … Our host Mrs S. mother of Unity a big girl with her father in Paris said `we could not call because they were full up with friends from when they were young, and some of the big Manchester families, perhaps IRELAND … We have Freddy the Clacton Theatre to join us sometimes, and my young Uncle Harry drives us about to see private Picture collections … Dedham of course as it is the Centenary Year of JOHN CONSTABLE … Harry explains my father is working away … BUT this is not true and he has gone to the tragedy in SPAIN … flown off with family members and they have a launch with old Uncle Rear Admiral Alfred Charles Ransom … who took us to the Galapagos last year where he and another RN are doing some surveying work on Natural History and testing a dingy that had worn patches on it made by joker JIMMIE Jong James … father dead was RN but his mother is a rich cultured Chinese … her family maintain an Apartment in Paris … persons who have NO money To me it is a small planet with very nice people and some wicked glaring … We help people ! 

 

THUS he next meets Annie and `our Bessie bursting with delicate energy` JUNE 1945 … and they give the SEAMISTS SUPPER  … to pull him back from HEAVEN and his dead young wife Jo and his 2 brothers …  and have him LIVE and carry on helping everyone … this War has given much for us all to do … Annie has a few artistic commissions, mostly memorials to design but she does not work with marble and stone anymore … all moneys offered go into the Church `Poor Box` …  

 

THIS YEAR 2020 … SO now you know what to do with driftwood along the seashores … and perhaps decorate them and SELL to Tourists … make CROSSES, BUT, a Ransom bride 14^th cent.  Mongolia would not marry US unless she was assured the Crosses had no figure on them … Her family said `Oh once she saw some ship-wrecked Jesuits on the shore and they kept holding up Crosses with a man on …`   BUT she married us, and got a bag of gold from us, and a circlet of gold for her hair …

1950s … But Julie a Northerner could not quite understand some of the South-ners says :     She and cousin WINNIE,  they had begun the Clacton Guest house together last year 1946 spring and could give Northerners good holidays … and she was going to be an old maid and stay with the families but she did have an offer from a Yank with a Ranch and it was genuine but she did not want to leave family …

 

Miss Win seemed to wish to marry but her sister `the Empress Teresa` found fault with them … Winters she Julie would be in Manchester running the good Jew`s workshop for him earning good money :  `OUR BILL`  Mayor of Manchester wanted to get at WELFARE … The Irish cousins came and went some titles but all for peaceful times as from 1859 !    Another WAR had knocked every one … delayed good work … AS BEFORE… that Great War  … TITANIC was a warning old people still said …

 

JULIE was down to `Crail` Clacton 1938 for her birthday … she watched Teresa pinching money from Aunt Mary`s handbag … Julie was 19 years old …

 

1939 summer Bud Flannaghan called summertime and said ` you`ve only got ONE bad one Mary ` … He reminded her children in heaven from that outbreak 1900s and how she helped he and others by coming `on stage` to sing so they`d get another booking … Darling Mary in a wonderful gown that they smuggled out of the house as George was in mounted Police …
