 ` we three had gone to LINCOLN with permission MARY GORDON grandmother :   The child said she had been way from Britain nearly a year ` =  ANDRE had papers & photos on his ANCESTRY descending from his mother - 9th century first name Family HISTON at near Castle Rising … they SEA TRADERS must pull their BOATS in November to March - they provide for winter being small farmers … They come to SAXMUNDHAM in the 19th century -  The three of them had been charmed to see the little Dowry house inherited by his mother - lost to her in the GREAT WAR - 1st World War… :    TALL SHIPS with sails `Wind ships` were overtaken by STEAM …

1960 JANUARY  - Philip Silverlee of Argentine/Britain  (he has written a book in French 1928)  went swiftly to talk with the CLOTIS Family :   The mother of JOSETTE Madam Clotis had described the anxiety of her daughter when she arrived to see her 2 grandsons late October 1944 to the uncomfortable cold small Chateau near Charentes, via TULLE Railway station :     Then the horrible accident nearly 2 weeks later … Josette fell on the Railway line … the train ran over her legs :     She died in a few hours :   She was dead when MALRAUX arrived :

(((    1930s -  I as a child 1930s at `Crail` Skelmersdale Road, Clacton-on-Sea heard British Catholics who had taken part in the GREAT WAR speak  :   We would cross ourselves to think & speak of the GREAT WAR victims … on a Sunday after High Mass :   two or three survivors sing in the new Great Church choir … I recall a Mr Shoemaker explaining to me his name was probably originally GERMAN in the 17th century :  

1945 onwards :    I remember pre-War Mr Shoemaker because he had a WEDDING PRESENT for Georges-ANDRE & GREETAH 1947 April …

1945 JULY in this Church of Our Lady :   HORROR EXPERIENCED BECAUSE OF WAR :  emotions that cannot yet be SPOKEN  :    MALRAUX with counter-tenor voice … all the young men 1920s in PARIS took lessons to sing like ALFRED DELLER :

Our Church Choir that July HIGH MASS  `HIT`  the whole of  “ the 1610 ”  =  MONTEVERDI MASS  :   He is delicate :

1930s-1940s :   I will try give you the setting & something of their state of mind :   WARS :
MR SHOEMAN, a widower suddenly, Clacton-on-Sea at Sunday mornings 1930s with my grandparents George and Mary GORDON :   He has been singing in the Roman Catholic Church Clacton Choir since 1929 & has been in THE GREAT WAR as a Soldier … He `did his bit` in this 2nd World War … With my family members and others we often go walks by the SEA on SUNDAY afternoons & then return for a welcoming tea at `Crail` the house of my Gordon grandparents & 3 unmarried working children … A Sunday Walk looking at the sea the sky & neat gardens has these participants of that 1914-1919 GREAT WAR SLAUGHTER, THE TRENCHES & MUD & HORROR,  quietly think upon relatives & those they have known who have War burials in the depths of the SEAS or in blood soaked MUD  … this is human behaviour  :


1945 … He, Mr Shoemaker, still singing very well,  comes to know a new WIDOWER 2nd World War Colonel ANDRE MALRAUX 1945 SUMMER :    And here with him is 12 years old Greetah Ransom grand-daughter of good friends dead 1937 and 1944 :    He will speak about them … and on MARY GORDON & her singing :   ` Mary had been singing in church Choirs since she was 12 years old …

…  1904-1905 friends kept her sane after she lost those 5 children 13 to 2 years in the SCARLETINA outbreak Highgate… they made her SING … everything … got her on Musical Hall stage to fill in = she even understudied Debussy his Opera PELLEAUS & MELISANDE -  she was well connected & understood much music … That winter told to stand by ` in case she had to go over to PARIS to help out with the Debussy Opera … … … )))
